Kay-To Design Diploma Collection

„Gothic Lolita at Work: Influence of Japanese Subculture on Women’s Business Wear“ was the thesis of this Diploma collection, shown at my presentation on April 30th, 2004.

The collection is based predominantly on Japanese youth culture as well as on subsequent subcultures that emerged in the last 10 to 20 years. The collection’s goal is to combine the Japanese contrast between modern and traditional values in order to transform them into a new high-end business chic.

This „New Office Chic“ is on the edge of conventional business attire and leans more towards Haut Couture. The cut and fabrication of this collection kept this influence as a driving force. The feminine as well as was the romantic aspects remain youthful and contain a historical touch influenced by the Japanese fashion trend Gothic Lolita.

This represents a reincarnation of the Victorian style. Further, Manga characters as well as the traditional kimono dress influence the collection via their simpleness and pureness, affecting a powerful and dynamic look.
